The Mens 2s delivered a battling and high-quality performance against Hampton in Arden, only to have victory cruelly snatched away in the closing stages by a moment of pure brilliance.

Nuneaton started on the front foot, moving the ball well and creating early pressure. James Norman went close in the opening exchanges, forcing a sharp save from the Hampton keeper before the rebound was eventually cleared by the defence. The breakthrough came after 17 minutes when Scott Denny’s persistence paid off, finishing clinically to give Nuneaton a deserved lead.

Hampton responded with some sharp movement and counter-attacking play and managed to level the scores later in the first half, keeping the contest finely balanced at the break.

The second half saw Nuneaton regain control, with Max Turner driving forward from left back to break through the midfield lines – including a classy aerial to beat his marker. Riley Wilson continued to impress with clever through balls and relentless determination in the middle of the park alongside Dan Buckby. Scott Denny struck again to restore Nuneaton’s lead, once more showing his hunger and commitment in the circle – even picking up a green card while battling past a defender determined to get a hat trick.

With Nuneaton pushing to see the game out, Hampton found one final moment of magic late on – a stunning tomahawk strike that flew past Lex Turner in Goal, who had had a standout game throughout, leaving the keeper with no chance and denying the Mens 2s a well-earned win.

A strong all-round performance full of energy, intent and teamwork – deserved of more than a point, but plenty of positives to take into the next fixture. ??
