Our Heritage: One of England’s Oldest Hockey Clubs
Founded in 1912, Nuneaton Hockey Club is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the country, with a history spanning well over a century. From our first games on grassy pitches to fast-paced fixtures on modern AstroTurf, we’ve proudly played hockey in Nuneaton for more than 100 years. We are a family-orientated club that honours its legacy while embracing a modern, forward-thinking approach to sport, development, and community. Our motto, “Prêt d’accomplir” — “Ready to Achieve” — reflects the enduring spirit that drives our teams on and off the pitch.

From Coal Dust to County Championships
Our club has grown alongside the town itself—evolving from the post-industrial heart of Warwickshire to become a pillar of sporting achievement and social connection in the region.
Across the decades, we’ve fielded competitive men’s, women’s, junior, and badgers teams and have proudly watched players rise from junior sides into club legends.

We are passionate about getting people involved and are very active in reaching out to our community to attract new players to the game – regardless of age, gender or ability. We love to win, but not at any price. We strive to play with passion, respect and fair play.

Club Legends & Generational Greats
Across our rich timeline, countless players have left their mark on our pitch, our walls, and our
hearts. Some of our most celebrated include:

David Cooper – A long-standing captain and mentor who shaped team strategy through the 1980s and 1990s.
Angela Brooks – A record-breaking forward and a driving force for women's hockey at the club.
Ben Taylor – A product of our youth system who went on to junior international honours.
Lynne Holloway – A dual-role leader in both coaching and playing who helped build our junior section into a powerhouse.

A Social Hub in Nuneaton's Heart
Beyond the game, Nuneaton Hockey Club is a vibrant social community. Our calendar is filled with end-of-season awards, quiz nights, junior discos, summer fundraisers, and off-season socials that bring together players, parents, volunteers, and supporters alike.

A Modern, Ambitious Future
Today, we continue to balance our rich history with a clear vision for the future. With an emphasis on youth development, female participation, digital engagement, and community growth, we’re building a platform for the next 100 years. Our home at Ambleside Sports Club now hosts multiple adult and junior teams, all benefitting from top-tier coaching, safeguarding, and support

Our Uniqueness
The season may stop, but we don’t! We play hockey ALL YEAR – whether it’s Summer League or our year-round Sunday Hockey sessions. Above all, we are great hosts; win, lose or draw, we treat other teams as friends on and off the pitch. Visitors love our hospitality!
