Greenfriars 2 Whitefriars 1

It’s back! The long awaited Centenary Challenge returned in style as the 2 Nuns’ intraclub teams met for game 1 in the battle for the coveted 100 year old trophy. The Whites started strongly and after a series of attacks, forced a penalty corner. The Greens defenders denied the Whites a clear shot on goal but it the melee, veteran Pat Veasey found the back of net to give the Whites the lead.

The second half saw the Greens coming out with renewed determination. Liam Spiller rifled his shot home from an early penalty corner to equal the scores and then found the net again minutes later to give the Greens the lead. The Whites pushed hard for an equaliser but despite their valiant efforts, the Greens claimed the day. With at least 11 more games still to play, the fate of the 100 year old trophy is still too early to call.
