With lockdown 3 at an end, the Greenfriars and Whitefriars met again for game 8 in the Centenary Challenge. The Whites started sharply and quickly pressed the Greens goal. Resolute defending kept the Whites at bay until a cracking shot from Fiaaz Vorajee took a deflection from Green’s Captain Kev Chester to find the back of the net. The Greens, undaunted, fought back and found a rapid equaliser through veteran striker Lee Summers. 5 minutes later Summers found the back of the net again to give the Greens the advantage at halftime. The second half saw the Whites push on to win a succession of penalty corners but frustratingly without result. In fact, despite the pressure from the Whites, it was the Greens who found the net again with an unstoppable deflected goal from Ewan Moorcroft. At 3-1 down the White’s seemed to lose heart altogether, allowing Liam Siller to bag a fourth goal for the Greens.
This well deserved win for the Greens brings their tally to 3 wins on the trot, but the Whites still have a slender advantage with 4 wins and one game drawn. All eyes will be on the next game when the teams again go head to head in the race to win the 100 year old trophy.
