Whitefriars 3 Greenfriars 1

With the festive season approaching would it be a White Christmas or a Green day in the second intra-club game?

With the Whites currently ahead in the series, the Greens were keen to square the account. Both teams started well but it was White’s Captain, Pat Veasey who received an early Christmas present, a gift wrapped pass from young Sam Bennett, allowing Veasey to slam the ball under the diving Scott Denny and into the net.

In response, the Greens piled on the pressure forcing some excellent saves from super dad Ady Holt in goal. However, in pushing for an equaliser the Greens left themselves vulnerable to a counter attack. Atticus Walton-Hayfield’s searing run into the D saw him punish the Greens and bag his well earned goal from close range. Undaunted the Greens fought back and after some excellent attacking, Charlie Baker deflected a stinging cross into the net for a cracking goal.

With the half time team talks over, both teams came out fighting. Again the Greens pushed forward but again they were vulnerable to the counter attack. The White’s won a penalty corner and in the melee, young Issac Hiatt stepped up to slam the ball home to make it 3-1.

With two games gone, the White’s have a slender advantage but there’s along way to go in this challenge yet and the fate of the 100 year old trophy could still go either way.
