Kettering  2-1  Nuneaton 3rds

Nuneaton went down with a fight in their final East Midlands Division One match at Kettering on Saturday.

The team were determined to get their own back for the 3-2 defeat at their opponents' hands just before Christmas last year.

Unfortunately, although Town had alot of possession, they found themselves two goals down before half time.  This sparked Nuneaton to life, and a superb through ball from Pat Moore, was picked up by youngster Ryan Stokes who beat two defenders before calmly slotting the ball under the Kettering keeper.

Nuneaton reorganised at half time to try and strengthen their grip on the game.  However, 3rd placed Kettering decided differently and barely let Town put two passes together.  In the end, Kettering deserved this victory, but were made to battle for it.

Town finished 6th in a season which promised so much more at the start of December.  At one end, keeper Chris Ellis has had an outstanding season, having come up from the 6th XI this year - securing several valuable points with some tremendous saves.  At the other, 17 year old Ryan Stokes has torn defences apart with his pace - scoring 13 goals, and assisting over 25 goals.  Both should be exhibiting their skills at higher levels next season.  Pat Moore and Gary Moreton have been totally reliable in their roles, alongside veteran Dave Ellingworth.  Young Mikey Parker has also shown tremendous promise this season, and can look forward to progressing next season.

Veteran Ian Nixon, who retired from playing last week has had a superb final season - a defensive rock next to his son Edward - even scoring against Kettering too.  Retiring skipper Roger Stokes can look at the season with pride - a solid foundation to be built upon next year.
