Game 5 : Greenfriars 2 Whitefriars 0

Posted by James Pennington on 6 March 2019

Game 5 in the Centenary Challenge Trophy was a must win game for the Greens who were anxious to get back into winning ways.  Both sides started confidently with the Greens having the balance of play, forcing a series of short corners but without result. The Whites for their part, attacked and defended well and went into the half time team talk satisfied to be all square. The second half started briskly with end-to-end attacking play, but it was the Greens who broke the deadlock. A goal mouth scrabble put a loose ball into the path of Harry Whitelegg who confidently slammed it into the net to put his side ahead. The Whites rallied and pressed for the equaliser only to be caught on the break. Owen Denny’s well timed cross found Ewan Moorcroft who deftly steered the ball passed the White’s keeper. Undaunted the Whites  pushed on, but despite winning short corners, they failed to convert their chances. Ultimately, it was a Green day but with the series all square after 5 games, the competition for the 100 year old trophy is really hotting up.
