Game 3 : Greenfriars 3 Whitefriars 1

Following a minute’s silence in remembrance of former Club Captain, Rev. Peter Dodds, game 3 in the inter-club Centenary Challenge got the new year underway in style. The Greenfriars were desperate for their first win but it was the Whites who gained the advantage in the first half. Their goal came through youngster Charlie Baker who, playing his debt game for the club, delicately guided the ball passed Green’s keeper Matt Peace.

In contrast, the second half was all green. The long awaited equaliser came through a well executed goal as junior striker, Owen Denny, got in behind the defence to steer the ball beyond keeper Xavier Stott. Next up, veteran James Pennington found the net with a well struck shot to make it 2 -1. The White’s battled hard to find an equaliser but we’re caught on the break allowing Aamir Lockhat-Clegg to seal the Green’s first win of the series. Both teams have now secured 4 points, but with a minimum of 4 games in the series left to play, the honours could still go either way.
